The Legal Development Network Begins Collaborating with Organizations in the Kherson Region as Part of the ABC Initiative

The Legal Development Network has joined the Area-Based Coordination (ABC) mechanism in the Kherson oblast. This means that moving forward, through the LINK humanitarian response coordination mechanism, the Network will deepen its collaboration with humanitarian organizations in the Kherson oblast to better meet the needs of communities.

The Network’s participation in ABC involves sharing information on trends in the humanitarian sector. For its part, the Network — which, thanks to the work of the LINK team in the Kherson oblast, has a deep understanding of the actual situation in communities — will provide partners with up-to-date data on humanitarian needs, broken down by type, quantity, and specific localities. Also important for partners to consider will be the information — which is constantly monitored by LINK’s humanitarian needs assessment managers — regarding changes in the security situation and its impact on requests from communities.

“For example, we have determined that over the past two months, the number of needs in the Kherson region has decreased. But this decrease is not because there are fewer needs, but because of the mass evacuation of people from certain communities. Village heads have begun to relocate, and overall, the number of residents in the villages has become so small that there is simply no one left to inform us of existing needs,” explains Viktor Alkhimov, program manager at the Legal Development Network.

Since access to humanitarian aid is currently a key challenge for the Kherson oblast, LINK is working to collaborate even more closely with its sources in local communities. With verified information about whether it is safe to travel to specific settlements, LINK can quickly share this information with its partner organizations. The network also uses the information at its disposal to advocate for the interests of affected communities in the South of Ukraine. 

“At regular ABC meetings, representatives from organizations discuss the projects they are currently implementing and any challenging requests so that we can find solutions together. Being part of a community of Kherson-based organizations is very valuable to us, as it allows us to delve even deeper into the local humanitarian context,” notes Anna Litvinyuk, coordinator of the LINK humanitarian response team in the Kherson region.
