ATO participant will receive the benefits that were canceled previously
Publication date: July 17, 2024
Oleksandr, a resident of Zaporizhzhia, approached the NGO “Agency for Democratic Development of Donbas” with a problem regarding the renewal of benefits as an ATO participant. The man was very concerned because these payments significantly impacted his financial situation and provided access to various social services.
Oleksandr said that the benefits he used to receive had been terminated without warning, and he needed to learn how to get them back.
The organization’s lawyer, Tetiana Pliasunova, analyzed Oleksandr’s case and the legislation section on benefits for ATO participants.
- “One of the key articles of Ukrainian law I used in this case is Article 9 of the Law of Ukraine “On the Status of War Veterans and Guarantees of Their Social Protection”. It defines the rights and benefits of war veterans, including preferential access to medical services, housing, transportation and other social benefits. Guided by this article and having carefully studied Oleksandr’s documents, I prepared all the necessary documentation to apply for the extension of benefits,” Tetiana Pliasunova explains.
It turned out that the man’s payments had been canceled because his information had simply disappeared from the Unified Register of ATO Participants. So, the lawyer went with the client to the Social Security Department to make sure that all the necessary renewal procedures were carried out per the law.
Although Oleksandr was never told the reasons for his data’s disappearance from the Unified Register of ATO Participants, a few days later, he received an official notification of the restoration of all his privileged rights.
- “The man was very thankful for the help and support. He said he now felt protected in a fundamental matter, too. This case once again confirms the importance of timely legal assistance and a lawyer’s involvement in protecting combatants’ rights and using the relevant legislation to achieve justice,” concludes Tetiana Pliasunova.
