Quick and promising: Lawyers Helped a Pensioner Register Her Property Rights in an Electronic Registry
Publication date: June 14, 2024
The lawyer of the NGO STEP helped a resident of Zaporizhzhia enter information about her apartment into the real estate register. In the successful case, lawyer Anton Stasik provided an algorithm of action and explained why it is crucial to record such information in the electronic registry, especially during the war.
Nadiia signed a contract to sell her apartment in Zaporizhzhia in 1996. Only now did the pensioner contact the NGO STEP to ask for help registering her apartment ownership in the real estate register.
The woman found out that the apartment belonged to her. However, due to the statute of limitations on the conclusion of the contract, no information about it was in the electronic register.
Anton Stasik, a lawyer with the NGO STEP, advised Nadiia and helped her obtain a digital signature key. The next step was to apply for state registration of rights through the Diia service. As proof of ownership, scanned copies of the sale contract, the technical passport for the apartment, and the registration certificate were uploaded into the system.
Within 30 days, Nadiia’s ownership of the apartment was registered.
- “Entering data on real estate ownership into the State Register of Real Estate Rights helps to avoid disputes over ownership, enables the use of the Diia application in case of damage/destruction of such housing, and prevents fraudulent actions,” explains Anton Stasik.
