Activists of the Association of Co-Owners of Apartment Buildings were taught how to communicate with local authorities

The members of the Association of Co-Owners of Apartment Buildings in the city of Storozhynets (Chernivtsi oblast) had a common problem: the roof of their apartment building needed repair. People wanted the city government to help them with this. They appealed to the Storozhynets City Council with a corresponding request, but, unfortunately, to no avail.

Residents shared this problem with paralegal Nataliia Horvasiuk and the head of the Vinnytsia NGO “Podillia Center for Human Rights” Mykhailo Bardyn, during a legal education event that the NGO and the paralegal held together in Storozhynets this summer.

• After listening to people, we realized that they needed support, as they did not have knowledge about the procedure and tools for interaction with local authorities, in particular, they did not know how to prepare documents correctly, – says Nataliya Horvasiuk.

So, the day after the event, Nataliia Horvasiuk met with the head of the Association of Co-Owners of Apartment Buildings and explained how activists should interact with representatives of the city council, what a lawyer can help them with, and what help they may need in the future.

Since Storozhynets is somewhat distant from the Podillia Center for Human Rights office, cooperation with Mykhailo Bardyn is carried out in an online format. Now activists have legal support at every step of resolving their issue. After all, the roof must be repaired before the fall.
