First Community Justice Center in Kharkiv Region is establishing cooperation with the legal clinic of the National Law University named after Yaroslav the Wise

On November 12, 2018, the regional coordinator of the Legal Development Network and the project leader of the First Community Justice Center in Kharkiv Region Project Roman Lykhachov visited the Legal Clinic of the National Law University named after Yaroslav the Wise . The purpose of the visit was to establish cooperation between human rights activists and legal clinics in Kharkiv region.

The visit took place within the framework of the First Community Justice Center in Kharkiv Region Project , which is implemented with the support of the American people, provided through the United States Agency for International Development (USAID), the New Justice Program.

During the meeting with the team of the legal clinic, its head Viktor Yanyshyn presented the activities of the legal clinic. He talked about plans for the future, introduced the students who provide legal assistance to vulnerable groups of the population. In particular, the students-consultants of the legal clinic provide free legal advice to vulnerable groups of the population, assist in the preparation of legal documents in the framework of the provision of primary legal aid, carry out various measures aimed at raising the level of legal education of the population.

In hie turn, Roman Lykhachov shared the experience of the Legal Development Network and the Chuguiv Human Rights Group. In particular, the project manager talked about strategic cases, lawyers of the Chuguiv human rights group participated in, and offered cooperation in the framework of law-enforcement activities of human rights activists. One of the joint activities, the staff of the legal clinic is interested in, is the creation of videos with human rights advocates providing advice on relevant issues for citizens. Also, the participants of the meeting discussed the possible participation of representatives of the legal clinic as listeners in court sessions in which the interests of the applicants are represented by lawyers of the First Community Justice Center in Kharkiv Region.

The Center will be formed on the basis of the Legal Development Network and the Chuguiv Human Rights Group.
